Salem State 83, Eastern Nazarene 66 –  Michael Makiej (Andover) became the 28th member of Salem

State men’s basketball’s 1,000-point club when his 23rd point of the night solidified the milestone for the junior forward. Jaden Castillo (Lawrence) poured in a game-high 33 points to go along with six assists on the night while Makiej added 23 points and 11 rebounds in the Viking’s victory. On the other side, Fahad Tarjali (Amman, Jordan) recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Joey Hanlon (Pembroke) chipped in with 16 points off the bench in the effort.  The Vikings are back at home this Saturday, February 3 as they welcome the Rams of Framingham State University for a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. Tipoff is at 2p.m..


Nichols 87, Endicott 65  – Jalen Echevarria (Lynn) paced all scorers with a season-high 30 points on 11-for-20 shooting from the field (4-9 3PT, 4-5 FT) alongside four rebounds and four steals. Ty Vitko (Dover, N.H.) and Drew Brown (Pelham, N.H.) highlighted the rest of the Gulls’ double-digit scorers with 14 points each. Endicott pushed Nichols to the brink in the second half despite trailing by as many as 16 points (48-32) with 17:52 to play in the stanza. Echevarria fueled a 22-9 run for the Gulls over a 6:32 span with a team-high 11 points. Liam Dunfee (Nahant) also contributed four points, while Cam Homsey (Lawrence) capped the spurt with a three-ball at the 11:20 mark (57-54). Parker McLaren (Newburyport, Mass.) and Vitko accounted for the other four points (two each) during the run. Endicott (12-8, 7-5 CCC) hosts Hartford this Saturday at 3 PM.


Women’s College Basketball

Salem State 86, Eastern Nazarene 75 –   Abuk Teng (Manchester, N.H.)  and Ernidia Goncalves (Everett)  combined for 52 points to give Salem State the 86-75 victory over Eastern Nazarene College (ENC) on Wednesday night in Twohig Gymnasium. The Vikings improved their overall record to 9-11 while the Lions dropped to 11-10 on the season. Goncalves led the Vikings with 27 points and 21 rebounds, notching her 14th double-double of the season. Nicolette D’Itria (Revere, Mass.) also recorded a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds while Teng rounded off the scoring with 25 points in the victory. After the game, Coach White talked about the win. “I think offensively we did a great job sharing the ball, getting everyone involved and taking high percentage shots, we shot the ball really well.” The Vikings will remain in Twohig Gymnasium, where they will face off against Framingham State in a Massachusetts State Athletic Conference (MASCAC) this Saturday, February 3. Tipoff is at noon.


Endicott 101, Nichols 74 – The Blue and Green were led by Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) and her program record 39 points (16-19 FG, 7-7 FT). She also secured 15 rebounds (11 defensive, four offensive) and dished out four assists in the blowout win.The duo of Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) and Emma Shinney (Wakefield) each finished an assist shy of the program’s first-ever triple-double. Fleming boasted a stat line of 19 points (8-14 FG), 12 rebounds, and nine assists, while Shinney posted 13 points (6-8 FG), 11 rebounds, and nine assists. Taylor Bogdanski (Saugus) also stuffed the stat sheet in the victory, as she contributed 13 points (6-9 FG), seven rebounds, and five assists to the impressive list of individual performances. Endicott (11-8, 7-5 CCC) returns home for a 1:00 PM tipoff against Hartford on Saturday.
