Endicott Football Falls to Hobart 34-17 / Women’s Soccer Ties – Volleyball Wins

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Hobart football team outscored Endicott 24-14 in the second half to pull away for an eventual 34-17 non-conference victory over the Gulls on Saturday afternoon at Boswell Field.
All-American quarterback Shane Sweeney (Phelps, N.Y.) was the difference for the Statesmen in the win as the senior finished the contest with 321 yards passing and four touchdowns on 22 completions (68.8 completion percentage).
Defensively, the Gulls stymied Hobart in the first half holding their opposition to just 10 points on 33 plays (156 yards). However, the Statesmen responded with three touchdowns and a field goal on their first four drives in the second stanza to come away with their third straight victory of the season.
FOR ENDICOTT
Joe Kalosky (Plymouth, Conn.) went 22-for-39 passing to go along with 269 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
His lone touchdown pass was a 43-yard connection to Will Genaway (Hinsdale, Mass.) with 5:19 to play in the game (27-17 Hobart).
Meanwhile, the TD catch for Genaway was the first of his collegiate career. He also led the team in catches (five, tied) and receiving yards (74).
Hakim Fleming (Bridgeport, Conn.) accounted for the Gulls only other TD with a one-yard plunge at 13:56 of the second half (20-10 Hobart).
John Glaser (East Moriches, N.Y.) also knocked in a 25-yard field goal with 16-secodns to go in the first half to round out the scoring for Endicott.
Riley Shanley (Simsbury, Conn.) tied Genaway for the team-high in catches for 71 yards total.
William Rivera (Orangebury, N.Y.) paced the Gulls in tackles with 11 (eight solo, three assisted, 1.0 TFL).
Allen Gibson (Seymour, Conn.) was second on the team with seven (five solo, two assisted), while Stone Murray (Latham, N.Y.) had five (three solo, two assisted).
FOR HOBART
Ray Conley (Lyndhurst, N.J.) found pay dirt twice on six catches for 82 yards. Conley opened the game with a nine-yard TD catch and closed out the scoring in the contest with a 41-yard TD with 2:22 remaining.
Brandon Shed (West Palm Beach, Fla.) made both of his receptions count as each one went for scores. His first came on a 10-yard TD snag in the third (12:11, Hobart 17-3), while his second was a 14-yard TD in the fourth (8:27, 27-10 Hobart).
Kyle Hackett (Charlton, Mass.) went 2-for-2 on his field goal attempts splitting the uprights once in the second quarter (27-yarder, 12:25, Hobart 10-0) and one more time in the third (40-yarder, 5:23, Hobart 20-3).
Defensively, Hobart held Endicott to average field position on its own 21-yard line, compiled two interceptions, two sacks, eight pass breakups, and four quarterback hurries.
Jedh Downey (Norwood, N.J.) collected a game-high 12 tackles (six solo, six assisted).
Almamy Conde (Bronx, N.Y.) posted seven tackles, (two solo, five assisted, 0.5 sacks, 0.5 TFL), to go along with one interception, a pass breakup, and one quarterback hurry.
Sam Wheeler (Upper Arlington, Ohio) had the Statesmen’s other interception, in addition to four solo tackles, and one pass breakup.

Endicott (1-3) hosts Husson on Saturday, September 30 at 12 PM. Hobart (3-1) visits Ithaca next Saturday at 1 PM.


Women’s Soccer Ties

BRISTOL, R.I. – In a pivotal matchup between two of the preeminent women’s soccer powers in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), Endicott and Roger Williams played to a 0-0 draw after two overtime periods. The tie, the first in conference play for both teams, moves Endicott to 3-3-1 (1-0-1 CCC), while Roger Williams moves to 3-4-2 (1-0-1 CCC).
The scoreless battle saw the two teams match each other in nearly every statistical category. Both teams were credited with 17 shots while both keepers, Shelby Elwell (Litchfield, Conn.) of Endicott and Natalie Donovan (Quincy, Mass.) of Roger Williams, collected six saves in their shutout efforts. Roger Williams held slight advantages in fouls (13 to 12), and corners (four to three).
BEYOND THE BOX
Since 2003, Endicott and Roger Williams have combined to win 13 of the 14 championships in that span. Endicott holds a 16-10-5 advantage in the all-time series, as well as a 9-6 advantage in CCC title throughout the Gulls’ storied history.
Sharlotte Pernice (West Springfield, Mass.) led Endicott’s offensive efforts, finishing with a match-high seven shots. Finishing closely behind was Hannah Pesci (Windham, N.H.), who posted four in the tie.
Elwell’s six save effort helped her record her second career shutout, and first double overtime shutout.
10 of the last 11 meetings between these two programs have gone to at least one overtime period, with seven of those advancing to double overtime or penalty kicks.
FOR THE FOES
Donovan’s six saves enabled her to record her second shutout of the season.
Gabbi Rozumek (Woodstock, Vt.) led the Hawks with five shots, four of which were on goal.

Endicott plays host to NEWMAC foe Babson on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., before hosting Western New England on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Roger Williams is on the road for two mid-week non-conference contests in WPI on Monday at 7:00 p.m. and Framingham St. on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. before traveling to UNE on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in CCC play.


Volleyball Tops Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. – Behind double-digit kill performances from both Emma Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Alex Dippel (Fallston, Md.), the Endicott women’s volleyball team swept Salve Regina 3-0 on Saturday morning. With the win, Endicott improves to 8-5 overall on the season, and 2-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play.
The Gulls were able to claim a tight first set by a 25-23 final after narrowly out-hitting the Seahawks .105 (12-8-38) to .056 (11-9-36). Endicott then earned a commanding 2-0 lead after taking the second set by a 25-18 final. The visitors would the complete the sweep by coming back late in the third set, rallying from a 21-18 deficit to win 25-22. Endicott registered their highest hitting percentage of the match in the third, out-hitting Salve Regina .231 (16-7-39) to .119 (11-6-42).
BEYOND THE BOX 
With the win, Endicott improves to 19-4 all-time against Salve Regina as Endicott has now won the last four straight meetings, the last two of which have come by sweeps.
Setter Zoey Gifford (Natick, Mass.) continued her impressive play, collecting 29 assists and 13 digs for her third double-double of the season.
Mancini hit a team-best .281 after posting 12 kills and just three hitting errors on 32 swings to go with six digs in the win, while Dippel posted a match-best 13 kills on 29 attempts. Dippel saw four of her kills come in the most crucial moments of the match, as she earned kills on the last four plays of the match.
Libero Cydney Pierce (Carpinteria, Calif.) led the defensive efforts yet again for the Gulls, posting a match-high 13 digs in the win as Endicott held a 52-46 advantage in digs for the match.
Sophomore Remi Quesnelle (Sunderland, Mass.) finished with seven kills and a solo block in the win.
FOR THE FOES
Sophomore Annie Donahue (Chelmsford, Mass.) led all players with a .417 average after posting 12 kills on 24 swings in the middle.
Samantha Salwa (Ellington, Conn.) finished with 17 assists and six digs for the Seahawks, while Sydney Puffer (Kittery, Maine) finished with a team-best 11 digs.
Kendall Wilcox (Pomfret, Conn.) collected seven kills on 18 swings, good for a .333 average.
WHAT’S NEXT
Endicott, 8-5 (2-0 CCC) continues CCC play on Tuesday when they travel to Curry for a 6:00 p.m. start, while Salve Regina, 5-7 (0-2 CCC), travels to Roger Williams on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. start.
