Navigators Lose Pitching Duel In Torrington 2-0

The North Shore Navigators had a tough time on offense playing against the Torrington Titans on Thursday night. After back to back wins, the Navigators dropped a game during a pitching duel against the Titans. The final score ended up being 2-0 in favor of the hosts.

Though the Navigators lost the pitching duel, they still got a fantastic effort from their entire staff. Richie Cruz (Florida International) was very solid during his outing. Pitching 5 and 1/3 innings, Cruz recorded six strikeouts and shut the Titans out prior to the sixth inning. He only allowed three hits during the game and he really helped to keep the Navigators in the game.

Following his performance, Jake Dexter (Southern Maine) came on to pitch and was also effective. Dexter went 1 and 2/3 innings and struck out two batters. He got the team out of a bases loaded jam, though a terrific two-out catch by Colby Maiola (UMass Lowell) out in center field did help him get out of that.

The final pitcher of the night was Brett Morrison, and he was arguably the best pitcher of the night for the team. The Lock Haven University product pitched one inning and struck out the side in order to give the Navigators a chance to make a comeback heading into the ninth inning.

The Navs were not able to get much going on offense during the game, but Mack Nathanson (Wofford College) performed well during the game. Nathanson was the only Navigator to get multiple hits, recording two on the day, and he got on base in the ninth inning to give the team a chance to bring the tying run to the plate.

The Navigators will return to action on Friday night when they travel to Nashua to take on the Silver Knights. First pitch for that game is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. The team will return to Fraser Field on Saturday when they play the Brockton Rox. That game will be the team’s Salute to the Red, White, and Blue game and veterans will be honored during the game. There will also be a fireworks display following the contest. First pitch for that game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m
