Bridgewater State Tops Salem State in Women’s Lacrosse 14-7 – Bears Improve to 10-6 (6-0)

SALEM Alex Lynch (Plainville, Mass.) notched five goals and Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.) added six points on three goals and three assists as Bridgewater State doubled-up Salem State 14-7 on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Bears improve to 10-6 and remain unbeaten in the MASCAC at 6-0. The Vikings slip to 4-11 and 2-4 in conference.

Lynch scored four first half goals as Bridgewater State built a 9-3 halftime lead. Lynch opened with back-to-back scores before Gabby Reinold (Braintree, Mass.) gave the Bears a 3-0 lead five minutes into the game. Courtney Smith (Peabody, Mass.) added the first of her three first half scores at the 24:28 mark, but Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) answered for Bridgewater State, the first of three unanswered goals by the Bears, as they built a 6-1 lead. Following back-to-back goals by Lynch, Courtney Smith cut the deficit to 6-2, but once again Bridgewater State received goals from Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass.) and Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.) to push the lead to 8-2. Courtney Smith and Ettridge exchanged goals late as the Bears carried a six-goal advantage into halftime.

Dailey Hancock (Stoughton, Mass.) scored the first of her two second half goals early in the second half, cutting the lead to 9-4. Rebecca McGlone (Salem, Conn.) added a score for Bridgewater State before Carolyn Woodin (Arlington, Mass.) and Hancock brought the deficit to five, 11-6 with 07:16 remaining.

Renauld added one back for the Bears, but Courtney Smith, who finished with five points, potted her fourth goal of the game. Ettridge and McDonough added late goals for Bridgewater State, making the final 14-7.

Allie Forman (Marblehead, Mass.) picked up the win making five saves as she shared time with Hayley Barner (Westwood, Mass.), who also made five stops in thirty minutes of action. Karli McLear (Paxton, Mass.) recorded 16 saves in the loss for the Vikings.

Salem State will go to Worcester State for their regular season finale on Saturday at noon. Bridgewater State will host Westfield State at 7:00 PM.
