ALERT: June 16, 2026 Outdoor Water Ban Issued
Effective immediately, the Town of Manchester-by-the-Sea has issued a mandatory ban on non-essential outdoor water use until further notice due to a repair needed at the Lincoln Street Well.
All irrigation systems, sprinklers, and other non-essential outdoor uses are banned until further notice. Allowed uses include evening drip irrigation and hand watering of flowers and vegetables between the hours of 5 PM and 8 AM. The Town is taking these important steps to maintain distribution system pressure as we experience increased summer demands.
The ban was prompted by a faulty pump at the Lincoln Street Well, which provides approximately 40% of Manchester’s water supply. The Lincoln Street Well has been taken offline until repairs can be made over the next week. The Town is currently being serviced solely by the Gravelly Pond water resource and the increased seasonal water usage is putting added strain on the remaining water supply.
Manchester residents can find specific information on personal water usage by registering for EyeonWater once their new water meter is installed (visit https://manchester.ma.us/826/Water-Meter-Replacement).
