Body of Missing Boater Found on Salisbury Beach

SALISBURY – The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has positively identified the body found on Salisbury Beach this morning as Chhoeun Chhoun, 44, of Lowell.

At 11:05 this morning, Salisbury Police received a 911 call reporting a body had been pulled ashore by beach goers.   Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Essex District Attorney’s Office responded according the protocol.

Mr. Chhoun went missing after his boat capsized last Tuesday near the mouth of the Merrimack River.  US Coast Guard and Salisbury Police, Harbormaster, and Fire as well as numerous other local police departments and harbormasters attempted to locate him without success.

“While this is a tragic loss, it will hopefully bring some closure for Mr. Chhoun’s family and friends,” Salisbury Police Chief Thomas Fowler said.
