Winthrop Girls Hockey Edges Peabody (PLNR) 1-0, Teams Split Season Series – Postgame Interviews

WINTHROP (Video – Photos) – After two scoreless periods Winthrop’s Reese Ferrara scored the game’s only goal at 1:37 into the third period. The assist came from Amelia Spencer. Peabody appeared to score in the second period, but the referee blew his whistle when the puck disappeared. Peabody players celebrated the apparent goal as the puck went into the net. The call of “no goal” stood. Overall, both teams played strong back and forth hockey for three periods. Peabody did go on the power play for the final 1:30 of the game but could not get the tying goal. Both goaltenders played well; Alyse Mutti (PLNR) and Riley Towse (Winthrop_

Peabody beat Winthrop back in December (2-1) at the McVann Rink in Peabody.

Winthrop improves to 11-2-2 on the season. Coach Butch Martucci earned his 201st career win. Peabody is now 13-3 on the season.
