Friday Night: North Shore Navigators Fall To Sharks In Martha’s Vineyard 6-3

The North Shore Navigators could not turn back to back wins into a winning streak on Friday night when the team traveled to Martha’s Vineyard to take on the Sharks. The team could not put up enough offense to take down the home team and they fell by a final score of 6-3.

The biggest offensive play of the day came from the team’s left fielder, Ben Kennedy (University of Texas). Kennedy came to the plate for the first time in the third inning. Following a Keith Linnane (Northern Essex CC), Kennedy got up and cracked an enormous hit that left the park in Martha’s Vineyard. It was Kennedy’s first homer of the season and at the time, it gave the Navigators a 2-1 lead.

The third run of the game came in the fourth inning for the Navigators. After a Nick DiBenedetto (Trinity College) double, MacDaniel Singleton (Salem State) came to the plate. DiBenedetto would advance to third after an error by the catcher and Singleton did not disappoint just a few pitches later. He cracked an RBI single that scored the runner and gave the Navs a 3-2 lead. Singleton was one of the better offensive performers of the night, going 2-4 and getting the aforementioned RBI.

On the mound, the Navigators got a strong effort out of their starting pitcher, Speros Varinos. The Tufts University product through eight innings in a no hitter during his last start, and he did not disappoint with his effort on Friday night. Varinos pitched six innings and struck out a game high seven batters during his performance. Although he gave up three runs, he looked solid on the mound and really was able to keep the team in the game.

Unfortunately, the Martha’s Vineyard offense was just too much for the Navigators to handle. The team made numerous comebacks throughout the night before pulling ahead for good in the seventh inning. The team piled on three runs and put the game out of reach, securing the 6-3 victory.

The Navigators will return to action on Saturday, July 16 when they host the Seacoast Mavericks. The game will be their Red, White, and Blue Jersey Auction. First pitch will take place at 6:00 p.m.
