LYNN – On Friday night the North Shore Navigators threw their first ever team no-hitter in a win over Worcester, The Navs lost Saturday night to Brockton. Game results posted below.

Saturday Game Results

The North Shore Navigators and the Brockton Rox engaged in an exciting back and forth battle on Saturday night at Fraser Field in Lynn. In spite of many game tying efforts, the Navigators could not come out victorious at home and they fell to the Rox by a final score of 5-4.
The biggest hit of the game belonged to the Navigators starting catcher Keith Linnane (Northern Essex CC). In the seventh inning, Linnane hit a massive double over the left fielder’s head thatjust missed being a home run by a few feet. The hit scored Colby Maiola (UMass Lowell) and Mack Nathanson (Wofford College) and at the time cut the Rox’s lead to 3-2.
Shortly after that hit, Linnane was replaced by pinch runner Riley Herold (Nebraska-Omaha) and RJ Warnock (Ave Maria University) came to the plate. With two outs, Warnock cracked a single over the head of the second baseman that brought Herold around and tied the game at 3-3. The hit helped to raise Warnock’s average since joining the Navigators to .310.
On the mound, the Navigators got a strong effort out of their starter Bobby Tramondozzi (UMass Boston). Tramondozzi worked through six innings during the night and he only allowed five hits during his outing. He also managed to strike out five batters on the night and he surrendered just two earned runs as well. He really helped to keep the Navigators competitive in the game, as they did not manage to score until the seventh inning.
Unfortunately, the Navigators could not get enough late inning offense to overtake the Rox. Despite scoring the in eighth inning after a Jordan Roper (Marist) doubled and later scored on a wild pitch, the Navs could not plate the tying run in the ninth. They had an opportunity with the bases loaded and two out, but they could not bring the run in and ultimately dropped the game by a score of 5-4.
The Navigators will return to action at Fraser Field next Saturday, July 19 when they host the Seacoast Mavericks. That game will include a special auction in which the Navigators will auction off their stars and stripes jerseys to benefit the Lynn Museum. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

Friday Game Results

The North Shore Navigators made history on Friday night when they were able to throw their first no hitter in their franchise history. The team defeated the Worcester Bravehearts by a final score of 7-1, and held their opponents hitless thanks to a great effort out of Speros Varinos (Tufts University) and Quinn DiPasquale (Stevens Institute).
Varinos was absolutely stellar on the mound in his second win of the season. He managed to finish eight innings and recorded three strikeouts during the game to add to his season total. The only run allowed on the day was unearned, and he only allowed three walks during his outing. He demonstrated excellent control on all of his pitches and kept a calm demeanor despite the fact that he had not allowed a hit and was only holding on to a small lead.
At the end of the day, Varinos threw 98 pitches over the eight innings he completed. Had there not been a pitch limit of 99, he may have been able to get a chance complete the game.
After Varinos’ night was over, Quinn DiPasquale (Stevens Institute) came in to close out the game, and he did not disappoint the Fraser Field faithful in his appearance. DiPasquale retired all three batters that he faced and added a strikeout to his season total. Since coming to the Navigators, DiPasquale has yet to allow a run and his ERA stands firmly at 0.00.
On offense, the Navigators were able to do a lot thanks to some nice at bats from their star players. Mike D’Acunti (Southeastern University) had another great performance at the plate and ended up going 2-4 on the day to bring his batting average up to .354. He added 3 RBIs to his season total now and ranks third in the FCBL with 27 on the season.
Mack Nathanson (Wofford College) also had a crucial hit during the game. Nathanson hit a two run single in the fourth inning that would first give the Navigators a 2-0 lead. They would never relinquish that lead thanks to the great effort by their pitching staff.
