Marblehead girls tennis coach Tracy Ackerman has announced her retirement. For the past 10 years she compiled a 126-45 record at the school. Also stepping down is junior varsity coach Lu Ann Gabel and Ackerman’s husband Bill. Her coaching highlights are detailed in today’s Salem News.
The Newburyport News has named junior Blaire Fox of Newburyport High as their girls lacrosse player of the year. Fox was also named the Cape Ann League’s Kinney Division MVP.
The North Shore Navigators, off last night, play at Keene tonight.
The Red Sox lost to the Nationals 8-1 last night. The deciding game of the three game series will be played this afternoon at Fenway Park. (1:35 p.m.)

Attention Residents – Cooling Center Reminders!
As always, we are grateful that we have our harbor! Temperatures will still be high over the next few days, but we are fortunate here in Gloucester that our projected temperatures are lower than our neighbors.
That being said, high temps can still be dangerous as they can increase your risk for dehydration and overheating.
There are areas around the City that will be open to help keep people cool during the heat of the day:

– The Grace Center – open Mon – Fri 8-4 (Closed July 4th)
– The Cape Ann YMCA – open Tues – Fri 5-9 (Closed July 4th)
OPEN ON JULY 2nd:
– The Sawyer Free Library – open Mon – Wed 8-6, Thurs 10-7 (Closed July 3rd/4th)
– The Open Door – open Mon – Fri 8:30-6 (Closed July 3rd/4th)
– Rose Baker Center for Aging Well – open to members Mon – Fri 9-4 (Closed July 3rd/4th)
For anyone who doesn’t have a house to cool down in at night, please reach out to our friends at Action Inc. The Action Inc Shelter is open to unhoused people 7 days a week from 4:30PM – 8AM.

City of Gloucester
Attention Residents – NONESSENTIAL OUTDOOR WATER BAN STARTING MONDAY JUNE 22nd
According to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, the Northeast Region is currently at a Level 3 – Critical Drought.
As per state law requirements, the City of Gloucester is enacting a water ban on all nonessential outdoor water use. This includes handheld watering and drip irrigation.
We highly recommend reviewing some suggestions for how to be mindful of water use for conservation purposes:
– Minimize overall water use whenever possible
– Fix leaking faucets, toilets, and irrigation systems promptly
– Take shorter showers and avoid filling bathtubs
– Turn off the water while brushing teeth or shaving
– Run dishwashers and washing machines only when full
– Use water-efficient appliances and fixtures when possible
– Monitor your water bill for signs of hidden leaks
– Avoid unnecessary outdoor watering and use water wisely outdoors
