UPDATE: State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Littleton; North Andover Man Treated for Minor Injuries

Today at about 3:40 p.m., State Police from the Concord barracks responded to a four-vehicle crash on Route 495 northbound, south of Exit 30, in Littleton which resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper David Cahill indicates that there was a collision between four vehicles, one being a dump truck carrying ground up pavement. As a result of the crash, the dump truck and a 2011 Kia rolled over in the roadway.

The driver of the dump truck, a 38-year-old man from East Boston, was determined to be deceased at the scene. The driver of the Kia, a 43-year-old man from Cumberland, R.I., his passenger, a 35-year-old woman, also from Cumberland, R.I., and the driver of the Toyota, a 36-year-old man from Carlilse were all transported to Emerson Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the Lexus, a 33-year-old man from North Andover, was transported to Lowell General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, and Crime Scene Services Section. State Police were assisted on scene by Littleton and Westford Fire and EMS and Littleton Police.

Route 495 northbound was closed for approximately one hour and 45 minutes for investigation and cleanup.

The identity of the driver of the dump truck is being withheld pending family notification.
