MIAA Update on Football State Championship Games – October 27, 2021

Today, the MIAA Football Committee met to discuss a scheduling conflict
between the MIAA State Football Championship games scheduled for December
3 and 4 at Gillette Stadium and the New England Revolution Soccer Team.
The Revs have had an absolutely outstanding season, currently reigning at the
top of the Eastern Conference and leading the entire League in points. They are
poised to host post-season play at Gillette into the middle of December. Their
first playoff game is scheduled for Tuesday, November 30, 2021, with the next
round scheduled for Saturday, December 4, 2021, which is MIAA Football
Championship Saturday.

The communication and collaboration with the Kraft Family and Gillette
representatives has been incredible. They have assisted in solidifying this
matter so MIAA student-athletes, cheerleaders, coaches and communities may
have the amazing experience of playing at the stadium. The following
amended schedule to allow for all eight championship games to take place was
presented by Phil Buttafuoco, Executive Director of Special events for Kraft
Sports to the Football Committee.

The Football Committee took an
advisory vote and unanimously approved this proposal:
Tuesday, November 30 – MLS Playoff Game
Wednesday, December 1 – MIAA Game Day
3:00pm
5:30pm
8:00pm
Thursday, December 2 – MIAA Game Day
3:00pm
5:30pm
8:00pm
Saturday, December 4 – MLS Playoff Game
Monday, December 6 – MIAA Game Day
5:30pm
8:00pm

• Which division will play on what day and at what time.
• Length of quarters: will they remain at 10 minutes or increase to 12
minutes.
• If the MLS schedule changes, then the schedule for Monday, December
6th game may be reevaluated.
The MIAA is grateful for the cooperation extended by the Kraft Family and their
staff. We look forward to a great tournament season which will include
Championship games at Gillette Stadium!
