Salem State Golfer Brian Cannata (Wakefield) Honored at MASCAC Golfer of the Year – Other Local Players Honored

SALEM — Senior Brian Cannata of Salem State earned 2022 MASCAC Men’s Golf Player of the Year honors after finishing as top overall finisher at the conference championship earlier this week. His performance also headlines this year’s All-Conference team.

Cannata, a senior from Wakefield  (Malden Catholic High School) fought the wind both days at Shennecossett Golf Course to come out on top with a two day total of 145 (72-73) which was an outstanding three over for the event. After day one, he had a three stroke lead over his closest opponent and was able to hold on to the lead with a +2 performance on day two to earn individual medalist, All-Conference and Player of the Year honors.
Taking home the 2022 MASCAC Men’s Golf Rookie of the Year is Graham Hassan of New England College. The freshman from Howell, Mich. shot an 85 and 84 over the two-day MASCAC Men’s Golf Championship to tie for 17th with a two-day card of 169 (+27) and help the team to a fourth place finish.
After leading the Vikings to their second straight MASCAC Men’s Golf Championship, James O’Reilly of Salem State was named the BSN Sports Coach of the Year as voted on by his peers.
Joining Cannata on the 2022 All-Conference First Team is Shamus McLean of Mitchell, Aidan McBride of Springfield, Kyle DelSignore and Brandon Smith of Westfield State.
On the Second Team are Timothy Carlson of New England, Danny DiLisio (Swampscott High School) and Ryan O’Leary (Billerica) of Salem State and Nick DeMaio and Jack Diefenderfer of Springfield.
