Rockport High School Musicians Making Some Sweet Sounds

ROCKPORT – (Video) Rockport High School’s music director, Anthony Covelli has infused the school’s music program with new energy.  The school now has three bands, a 60 member Symphonic Band, a 25 member Jazz Ensemble I and a 10 member Jazz Combo group.
The members of that group will be competing in three competitions this year after two last year (5th place at Berklee HS Jazz Festival & 3rd place at University of Delaware). The RHS musicians will be doing those two again and adding the University of New Hampshire Jazz Festival.
Vocalist senior Kiva Trumbour won the most outstanding vocalist award at Delaware and was awarded a judges choice award at Berklee. Also at Berklee, Kiva was selected to compete at the Singer’s Showcase, an event at the Berklee competition that featured 10 vocalists vying for top honors. Kiva was selected as one of the 10 out of over 200 applicants. She eventually finished 3rd but excitingly enough she is the only applicant from last year that was selected to the Singer’s Showcase again this year (most of the contestants were seniors but she’s the only returnee).
The video below is of Kiva with the Beantown Swing Orchestra. This is from this past August at the Crane Estate in Ipswich. Some other school members also have played in the group – lead trumpet, Junior Charlotte Salmon, is also in this video on 4th trumpet with Beantown.
