NSCC’s Gateway to College Program Receives National Program Excellence Award – Interview with Nadira McDonald

DANVERS / Lynn – For the second year in a row, North Shore Community College’s (NSCC) Gateway to College (GTC) Program has earned the Achieving the Dream’s Program Excellence Award for its success in helping students reach their academic goals, surpassing all four benchmarks used to assess the performance of Gateway to College programs nationwide: first term success, one and two-year persistence, and graduation. NSCC’s GTC Program extends access to high school completion, degree attainment and gainful employment to students with potential between the ages of 16-21 who have disengaged from high school and have not earned a diploma. The GTC program provides young adults with the opportunity to reclaim their education by enrolling in a full-time college-based scholarship program that enables them to earn a high school diploma while earning free college credits that can be applied toward an in-demand degree or certificate at NSCC or transfer to a four-year institution.

“This is exciting news for the NSCC Gateway program,” said Nadira McDonald, Executive Director of K-12 Partnerships. “I’m very proud of this accomplishment and grateful to all who worked collaboratively with us to achieve it. It is affirming to know that we are fulfilling our mission and making a positive impact on the students we serve.”
