GEORGETOWN — When Georgetown Police Officer Henry Olshefsky started his shift on Thursday morning, the last thing he expected to be doing was chasing an escaped pig around a neighborhood in town.
At approximately 11 a.m., Georgetown Police received a report of a loose pig in a yard on Birch Tree Drive.
When Officer Olshefsky arrived, the pig was nowhere to be found, so he decided to canvass the neighborhood to see if he could locate the animal.
After a short search, Officer Olshefsky saw something large in a driveway on Long Hill Road. Once he got closer, he realized it was a very big male pig.
The pig, which Georgetown Police estimate to be around 1,000 pounds, appeared friendly, and was hanging out by a Frisbee, ready to play.
Eventually the pig walked out of the driveway and Officer Olshefsky was able to guide him down the street and onto Red Pine Way in Rowley. There, Officer Olshefsky saw a farm, which the pig ran toward after he recognized it as his home.
Officer Olshefsky spoke to the homeowner, who stated the pig had broken out of his pen and was grateful that he made it back safely.
“When I first got this call I thought I was going to be dealing with a small pig, but after seeing him, I realized I was dealing with a giant animal,” Officer Olshefsky said. “Thankfully, I was able to easily direct him back home while in my cruiser, where he seemed happy to be.”
