North Shore Sports Desk: Little League Baseball – Performances of the Week – Tournament Tennis Guests

North Shore Sports Desk

Sports talk with Dom Nicastro and Nick Curcuru

North Shore Sports Desk. It’s mid-summer on the North Shore, and that means news from the baseball diamonds. We discuss the Sectional 4 Massachusetts Little League all-star tourney featuring Gloucester, Peabody West, Andover and Reading. This is the Sweet 16 of the Massachusetts tourney. The championship game is slated for Saturday, July 23 between the top two teams after Friday night.
The Super Sub Shop Super Performance of the Week is the Post 331 Beverly/Salem American Legion team, which won District 8 and advanced to this weekend’s state championship tourney in Milford. This team won the entire state and Northeast Region in 2021 and is looking great again. Noah Guanci and Bobby Jellison gave outstanding efforts on the mound to send the team into the states.
We also catch up with Joe Maher, coach of the unbeaten Division 4 girls tennis state champions out of Hamilton-Wenham. Maher coached the boys team at H-W to a state title in 2009. The Generals’ unbeaten first doubles senior team of Brynn McKechnie and Nora Gamber capped off an amazing season in the state finals against Wareham, the No. 2 ranked team in the state behind No. 1 Hamilton-Wenham. Naomi Provost and Chloe Gern won in singles, and the doubles team of Lisette Leonard and Lily Cassidy cruised to a victory in the state finals.
