North Shore Navigators Walk Off With 10th Inning Win – D’Acunti Earns League Honors – Host Brockton Tonight

LYNN – North Shore Navigators Notch Walk Off Win In The 10th Inning

The North Shore Navigators managed to win their fourth straight game on Tuesday in a tightly contested contest with the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs. The game went in to extra innings, where the Navigators ultimately won the game, 7-6, on a walk off hit in the tenth.

In the final inning, the Navigators managed to get Drew Delsignore (Mercyhurst) on base after a leadoff walk. In the following at bat, Jake Dexter (Southern Maine) hit a sacrifice bunt that moved Delsignore over to second base. Delsignore would later move up on a wild pitch that put him on third base with one out. Then, with two outs Joey Pena (St. Thomas Aquinas) hit a single into left center field that scored Delsignore and gave the Navigators the win.

In general, the Navigators offense was solid throughout the night. The team managed to get a lot of base runners and got them to score. In particular, Riley Herold (Nebraska-Omaha) and Mike D’Acunti (Southeastern University) had solid games. Herold went 4-5 on the night and ended up scoring a run during the game.

D’Acunti, the reigning FCBL Player of the Week, had another great outing and led the Navigators in RBIs on the night with two. He also managed to go 2-4 on the night while scoring a run and he raised his batting average on the season to a stellar .359.

On the mound, the Navigators got a good effort out of starting pitcher and newcomer Evan Glew during his first start for the team. Glew managed to work five inning on the night, and generally worked quickly through the Dirt Dawgs’ order. He notched two strikeouts on the night as well.

Later in the game, Dexter came on to pitch and he finished the game strong. Pitching two innings, he gave up only one run and managed to avoid any major damage in the tenth inning. He only allowed three of the 10 batters he faced to reach base.

The Navigators will return to action on Wednesday night, June 22, when they host the Brockton Rox at Fraser Field. First pitch will be at 7:00 p.m. The team also has some exciting events coming up, as Friday night will be Firework Night at the ballpark and Saturday will be Christmas at the Ballpark. The Friday game will begin at 7:00 p.m. and the Saturday contest will start at 6:00 p.m.

North Shore Navigators C/1B Mike D’Acunti Wins Futures League Player Of The Week Award

After a week that saw the North Shore Navigators start their first winning streak of the young 2016 season, the team got some exciting news regarding one of their players. It was announced on Monday that Mike D’Acunti was named the Futures League Players of the Week, becoming the first Navigator to win the award in the 2016 season.

“Mike really helped to spark our offense this week,” said Navigators General Manager Bill Terlecky, “He certainly is deserving of this award because of his great performance.”

D’Acunti, a rising senior at Southeastern University, had a monster week for the team. Playing in seven games this past week, D’Acunti was an offensive catalyst for the Navigators. He hit a whopping .448 during the seven games and he cracked his first home run of the season during his stretch. He also totaled five doubles, a triple, and managed to drive in eight runs for the Navigators on the week.

He displayed positional versatility during the week as well. D’Acunti played four different positions including catcher, first base, left field, and designated hitter in the seven games.

D’Acunti’s best day came on Saturday when he helped lead the Navigators to a sweep of the Brockton Rox in a doubleheader. During the two games, he went a combined 5-8 and scored four of the teams runs during the contest. He drove in three runs en route to the two victories.

D’Acunti will look to stay hot during the Navigators upcoming five game home stand that starts this Tuesday when the Navigators take on the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs. There will also be a Firework Friday game this on Friday, June 24 with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The fireworks display will take place roughly 15 minutes after the game.
