Newburyport Man Arraigned on 80 Counts

Jaime Ford, 46, of Newburyport, was arraigned in Salem Superior Court before Judge Timothy Feeley Friday on indictments charging him with 80 criminal counts.  The crimes for which Ford was arraigned on today include  larceny, forgery, uttering, perjury, preparation and presentation of false insurance claims, workers’ compensation fraud, failure to have workers’ compensation, misleading a police officer, false report to police identity theft,  clean air act violations pertaining to illegal asbestos dumping, state building code violations, tax evasion, false financial statements, money laundering, home improvement contractor crimes, and for being a common and notorious thief. Ford entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.

Judge Timothy Feeley ordered Ford to be held on $15,000 cash bail and imposed conditions of release, should he post that bail, that he not travel  out of the state, not work in the construction trades, not operate any vehicle that is in arrears, reside at his present address in Newburyport, and alert the court to any change in address.

Ford was represented at the arraignment by Attorney Carmine Lepore.  The Commonwealth was represented by Assistant District Attorney Philip Mallard.  The case, which was the product of a joint investigation of Beverly Police, the Insurance Fraud Bureau, and the State Police assigned to the Essex District Attorney’s Office,  is next scheduled for pre-trial conference on September 28, 2015.  The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
