Navigators Grab First Home Win To Extend Winning Streak To 3 Games;Navigators Sweep Doubleheader Against Brockton Rox Thanks To Offensive Outburst

The North Shore Navigators continued their winning streak on Sunday afternoon when they played host to the Torrington Titans. After sweeping a doubleheader in Brockton on Saturday, the Navigators were able to play at a high level once again and ultimately defeated the Titans by a final score of 5-2.

The story of the game was the effort that the Navigators got from their starting pitcher Cam Lanzilli (UMass Lowell). Lanzilli was stellar on the mound, going 6 and 2/3 innings on the day and allowing minimal damage. He pitched the first six innings scoreless before allowing two runs in the seventh. He looked great all day and managed to pick up three strikeouts during the affair.

After Lanzilli’s effort, Jake Dexter (Southern Maine) came in to pitch and he finished out the game strong. He went 2 and 1/3 innings and only allowed one hit. He also notched a strikeout and faced only 8 batters during his outing.

On offense, the Navigators once again got a strong performance from Mike D’Acunti (Southern). He went 2-4 on the day and picked up three RBIs, to build on the great outing he had in yesterday’s doubleheader. His 3 RBIs came in the fourth inning, when he cracked a bases loaded double to start the scoring off for the team. He also scored a run in the inning and really was the catalyst for the Navigators during their offensive outburst.

Elsewhere on offense, MacDaniel Singleton (Salem State) and Conor Bawiec (Elmira College) were pretty good during the game. Singleton went 2-4 and scored two runs during the game. He raised his batting average to a solid .311. Bawiec managed to reach base three times going 2-3 with a walk and an RBI. He also raised his average into the .300s, getting it as high as .308 during the contest.

The Navigators will be at Fraser Field for the entire week of June 19 to June 25. They have five home games over the next six days. The next game will take place on Tuesday, June 21 and the Navigators will face the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

The North Shore Navigators had their best day of the young 2016 season on Saturday when they traveled to Brockton for a doubleheader with the Rox. The Navigators managed to sweep the doubleheader, winning the first game by the score of 12-1, and the second game by a score of 8-1.
The story of the day for the Navigators was their performance on offense. Between the two games combined, the Navigators managed to score 20 runs and many of their players performed very well over the span of the day.
In the first game, their first couple of runs scored in the third inning. After MacDaniel Singleton (Salem State) got on base with a single, Mike D’Acunti (Southern) stepped up to the plate. Field Manager John Zizzo put on the hit and run and D’Acunti converted. He lined a single into center field and Singleton came home after the center fielder bobbled the ball. D’Acunti would later score on an
Alex Brickman (Siena) sacrifice fly to make the score 2-0.
In the fifth, Brickman would pick up another RBI after he grounded out to the second baseman. On the play, Joey Pena (St. Thomas Aquinas) scored from third and D’Acunti went to second. He would later come in to make the score 4-0.
From there, the Navigators would pile it on in the later innings. After plating two in the eighth, the Navs exploded in the ninth inning. The team scored a whopping six runs in the inning, four of which came on a grand slam by Drew Delsignore (Mercyhurst). The homer was his second of the year, and he tied a Navigators franchise record with five RBIs during the game.
D’Acunti was one of the best offensive performers of the whole day for the Navigators. He got on base in all five of his at bats in game one, going 3-3 in game one with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, three runs, and an RBI. In the second game, he continued his success and went 2-5, this time scoring one run and driving in two.
The pitching during the first game was great for the Navigators as well. Brett Morrison (Lock Haven) started the game and pitched four scoreless innings while recording three strikeouts. Brian Burke (Curry College) had similar success going five innings as well allowing only one run and striking out five.
The trend of great pitching continued into the second game. Bobby Tramondozzi was an absolute star in his Navigators debut. The UMass Boston product pitched 6 and 2/3 innings during the game, struck out five, and allowed only one run on the game. He shut out the Rox for most of his outing prior to giving up a run on the last batter he faced. Sean O’Neill (Brandeis University) came in to finish the game, pitching 2 and 2/3 scoreless to close things out.
Nick DiBenedetto (Trinity College) was superb during the second game as well. He was absolutely on fire, going 5-5 scoring a run and driving in four more. His five hits tied a Navigators franchise record for hits in a single game, and he was able to raise his average to an impressive .385 thanks to his performance. He was a big part of the reason that the Navigators were able to score eight runs in the game.
The Navigators will return to Fraser Field on Sunday, June 19 for a matchup with the Torrington Titans. It will be the Father’s Day Game presented by New Angle Glass Company, and all fathers in attendance will throw a ceremonial first pitch! First pitch ceremony will start at 4:30 p.m. with the game set to start at 5:00 p.m.
