MIAA D3 Football Semi-final: Melrose 24, Danvers 7, Falcon’s Strong Playoff Run Ends

LYNN –  (Radio & Video Features) The Melrose Red Raiders (11-0) overcame a shaky 1st quarter start to defeat the Danvers Falcons (8-3) 24-7 at Manning Field and advanced to the D3 Superbowl on December 5.  With Danvers leading 7-3 after a Mike Cusolito 33 yard field goal in the first quarter and a Dan Lynch 1 yard TD run in the second, Jay Tyler turned the game around for Melrose with a 79 yard TD sprint with 2:05 left in the first half, and the Red Raiders never looked back.  Quarterback Julien Nylalnd added touchdown runs of 65 yards in the third quarter, and 11 yards in the fourth to finish off the scoring.  Tyler ended up with 111 yards rushing on 8 carries for Melrose, while Lynch carried the ball 30 times for 173 of his team’s 182 total yards.
