MARBLEHEAD – Currently on display now through July 28th, watercolors by Russian artist and architect Abram Shkolnik will be on view in the Virginia A. Carten Gallery, at Marblehead’s Abbot Public Library. The exhibit, “My Impression of New England and Beyond,” will include cityscapes, ocean views and reflections.  A public reception will be held on Saturday, July 23rd, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.

Abram Shkolnik was born and raised in Akkerman in the Odessa region of Ukraine. He received his Master’s degree from the Novosibirsk School of Architecture. Abram began painting and drawing at an early age. His love for seascapes, architecture, and the subtle interplay of shadow and light in the streets of old towns grew stronger throughout the years. Abram worked as an architect in different Russian cities. He started working in Moscow in 1968. Many buildings in the city of Moscow were his projects.

As a member of  the Association of Architects of Russia, Abram participated in annual art exhibitions at the Moscow House of Architects,  He also exhibited personally in Montreal, Canada, and took part in many other art shows. While working as an architect, he was an Instructor of Painting and Design at an art school in Moscow.

Abram’s favorite subjects include cityscapes, seascapes, and still life. His paintings can be found in private collections in Russia, Europe, the USA, Canada and Israel.

Abram moved to Boston  from Moscow in 2000; he now lives in the South End. He spent the last fifteen years creating paintings of beautiful  places in Boston, Cape Cod, New Hampshire, and Maine.  His watercolors are expressions of poetry, energy, and the dance of shadow and light, where the intensity of his perceptions becomes the true subject  of his paintings.

Since  the year 2000,  Abram has been participating in Massachusetts exhibitions at various events and galleries including the Third Russian-American Festival in the Town of Brookline, Gallery 254, Sea Street in Dennisport (Cape Cod),  in Centerville (Cape Cod), and Natick. In 2015, he participated in the “Auction for Fine Art” in West Palm Beach, Florida.
