PEABODY – (Video) Jaret Simpson scored twice, and George Deroche assisted on all 4 goals as the Lynnfield Pioneers opened the seaon with a 4-2 win over Gloucester. Lynnfield took a 2-0 lead into the second period, before Gloucester got on the board on a goal by Derek Hopkins to cut the lead in half at 14:51 of the second period. John Simonetti netted the game-winner for Lynnfield at 3:07 of the third period, before Gloucester’s Harrison Marshall cut the lead back to one at 6:02 of the third. Jack Hammersly (for real) added an empty-netter to make the final score 4-2.
With the new 2-minute penalty rule for minor infractions in effect, the Fishermen spent almost half the game short-handed.
