GLOUCESTER – Reminder that starting tomorrow on May 26th, our Fire Department and DPW are starting on some mechanical mitigation efforts in alignment with our Community Wildfire Protection Plan. Thanks to a State DCR grant, Mayer Tree will be working with the City to clear dead and dried vegetation, remove overgrowth encroaching on access roads, and improve accessibility for emergency response vehicles in areas identified as posing an extreme wildfire risk. This work is designed to ensure that emergency responders can safely and efficiently access wooded and remote areas in the event of a wildfire.
The work is starting on near Dory Road and the Babson Reservoir. Please note that only dead and obstructive vegetation will be cleared during this process to balance the need for emergency access with the necessity of maintaining an active watershed. This work is only the first step in the process, due to funding limitations, so the City is actively pursuing additional funding opportunities to continue this work as well as furthering other objectives from the Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
Thank you to Mayer Tree, the Fire Department, and the DPW for working to keep Cape Ann safe from wildfire emergencies!
