Georgetown Victim’s Identity Released

The Essex District Attorney’s Office is confirming the identity of the 8-year-old boy tragically killed yesterday in Georgetown as George Carter of Georgetown and Methuen.

George, who lives primarily with his mother in Methuen, was assisting his father, Peter Carter, in exercising several cows yesterday.  Suddenly and inexplicably, one of them spooked and trampled George.  He was transported to Anna Jaques Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Peter Carter owns 24 cows which he raises for beef.  Investigators learned that the cows have passed all routine inspections in accordance with local town ordinances.

No foul play is suspected.

The Essex District Attorney’s Office, by statute, must investigate all unattended or unexpected deaths.  Its involvement should not imply any criminal wrongdoing.
