Georgetown Fire Department Extinguishes Early Morning Basement Fire

GEORGETOWN — Chief Matt McKay reports that the Georgetown Fire Department battled a basement fire early Tuesday morning.

At approximately 5:39 a.m. Georgetown Fire received a 911 call about a reported fire in the basement of a home located at 120 North St. Upon arrival, crews observed flames and smoke that appeared to be coming from the area of the heating system located in the basement of the home. Crews began an aggressive interior attack and quickly extinguished the fire.

One resident was transported to an area hospital for evaluation. There were no other reported injuries.

North Street was closed between Parsonage Street and Mill Street during firefighting operations. Crews cleared the scene at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Mutual aid was provided by the Groveland, Newbury, and Rowley Fire Departments. Station Coverage was provided by Newburyport, West Newbury, and Boxford.

During this time, Georgetown Fire received another call for an alarm activation at Trestle Way. Mutual aid from Boxford responded.

“I would like to thank our members and our mutual aid partners for their quick response and diligence during this incident,” said Chief McKay.

The origin and cause of the fire, which does not immediately appear to be suspicious, is under investigation by the Georgetown Fire Department, Georgetown Police, and the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
