Georgetown Fire Department Extinguishes Chimney Fire

or immediate release

GEORGETOWN — Chief Matt McKay reports that the Georgetown Fire Department extinguished a chimney fire on Sunday afternoon.

At approximately noon, the Georgetown Fire Department responded to 2 Marions Way for a report of a chimney fire.

Chief McKay was the first to arrive at the scene and discovered an active fire at the top of the chimney stack, which had extended to the siding and framing around the chimney. Residents who were home at the time had evacuated prior to firefighters’ arrival.

Chief McKay requested a working fire response, which brought additional manpower to the scene and for station coverage. Firefighters stretched a hose line and were able to knock down the bulk of the fire from the outside within about 15 minutes of arriving on scene.

The Rowley Fire Department provided mutual aid on scene and the Newbury Fire Department provided station coverage.

Damage was contained mostly to the chimney stack with some minor interior damage around the fireplace. The scene was cleared at approximately 1:15 p.m.
