SALEM – Please be advised that memorial services and the funeral procession for Massachusetts State Trooper Kevin Trainor are planned for St. James Church on Federal Street in Salem this upcoming Wednesday, May 13, 2026. State Trooper Trainor graduated from Salem High School in 2013 and Salem State University in 2019, and his family continues to live in Salem.
Thousands of state and local police officers are expected to come to Salem on Wednesday to pay their respects. Road closures in the area of St. James Church are planned beginning at 7:30am and will continue throughout the morning.
Expect the following road closures beginning at 7:30am:
Federal Street
- Residents of 76 through 134 Federal Street may access their homes via North Street. No vehicles will be permitted past Carpenter Street.
- Residents of 135 through 170 will only be able to access their homes on foot.
- Residents of 170 through 194 Federal Street should call the Salem Police at 978-744-1212 for assistance in gaining access.
- No on-street parking will be permitted on Federal Street between numbers 135 and 170.
Carpenter Street & Gifford Court
- Residents of Carpenter Street and Gifford Court will only be able to access their homes by vehicle via Federal Street.
- Residents of 2-8 Gifford Court will not have access to their parking on Bridge Street from 7:30am to 2:00pm.
Flint Street
- Flint Street will be closed from Mason Street to Essex Street.
- Residents of 73 through 94 Flint Street may gain access by vehicle via Mason Street.
- Residents of 33 through 54 Flint Street will only be able to access their homes on foot.
- No on-street parking will be permitted on Flint Street between Bridge Street and Essex Street.
Harrington Court
- Residents will have no vehicle access – in or out by vehicle – from 7:30am to 2:00pm.
Bridge Street
- Residents of 347 and 351 Bridge Street will have no vehicle access – in or out by vehicle – from 7:30am to 2:00pm.
- Residents of 156 and 162 Federal Street having parking spaces in the rear, with entry from Bridge Street, will not be able to enter or exit from 7:30am to 2:00pm.
- Residents of 331 and 333 Bridge Street should enter and exit via North Street or River Street.
- Residents of 2-8 Gifford Court will not have access to their parking on Bridge Street from 7:30am to 2:00pm.
River Street / Lynn Street / Andover Street
- Residents should plan to enter and exit via Beckford Street or Bridge Street to North Street.
Parking and moving through the area will be challenging and limited throughout the morning into the early afternoon. Memorial services are anticipated to conclude well before the evening commute, and closed roads will be reopened accordingly.
Members of the public who wish to pay their respects as a part of the processional are asked to do so by lining Boston Street west of Bridge Street toward Peabody. Those who wish to do so should plan to assemble beginning at 9:45am. The other streets along the route will be lined with state and local officers. Please be advised that a rifle salute and a helicopter flyover are planned as a part of the ceremonies.
Any media vans/vehicles are directed to park along Flint Street, specifically on the section between Federal Street and Essex Street.
