Friday, April 10: Prep Boys’ Lacrosse Streak Ends with 5-4 Loss

In high school baseball Masconomet out-slugged Beverly yesterday for a 17-7 win. The Chieftain’s Cal Weidman went 3 for 4 and scored four runs in the game.
Ipswich edged Rockport 6-5 behind Graham McNamara’s two run seventh inning single. It was Pentucket 4, Essex Tech 3; Amesbury 11, Manchester-Essex 1. Bishop Fenwick outscored Bishop Stang 11-9 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

In softball, Masconomet 6, Beverly 3 with Masco pitcher Sydnee Vocino holding the Panthers in check; Gloucester topped Salem 10-1 with Abby Noble striking out 10 batters as the Fishermen are now 3-0 on the season. The Rockport softball team snapped a 25-game losing streak with a 22-5 win over Lynn English. The Viking’s Gretel Marshall had 3 hits including a double and a triple.

The Triton girls lacrosse team this week snapped an 11-year 18-game losing streak against rival Pentucket with a 10-9 win. Claire Lussier and Olivia O’Leary each scored 3-goals for Triton in the game.

In boys lacrosse, B.C. High edged St. John’s Prep 5–4 handing the Eagle’s their first loss of the season.

The Salem News has named St. John’s Prep skier Owen McLain as their Skier of the Year.

The Celtics lost a tight one to the Knicks last night 112-106 and they are right back in action tonight when they host New Orleans. The Red Sox open a series in St. Louis tonight against the Cardinals. The Bruins play host to Tampa Bay tomorrow afternoon.
