(SALEM, Mass.) – Summer in Salem brings live music, art, history, outdoor dining, and a full calendar of festivals and community events. This year, the season takes on added significance as Salem marks Salem 400+, a citywide commemoration of 400 years of history, culture, creativity, and community.
From June through August, visitors can experience everything from the Salem Arts Festival and North Shore Pride to fireworks over Salem Harbor, the return of the Salem Heritage Days Parade, and a visit from the historic tall ship Pride of Baltimore II. Summer also offers an ideal opportunity to explore Salem’s museums, historic sites, waterfront, shops, restaurants, and seasonal traditions.
“Summer in Salem has its own kind of magic,” said Ashley Judge, Executive Director of Destination Salem. “It’s ocean air, drinks outside, music by the water, and art in the streets. It’s also fireworks over the harbor, farmers’ markets, vintage cars on Chestnut Street, and cardboard boats that may or may not make it back to shore. As Salem celebrates 400 years, summer is the perfect time to experience the city beyond the stories people already know, with the creativity, history, humor, and community spirit that make Salem feel so alive.”
Adding to the ease of visiting this summer, the MBTA Commuter Rail is offering Free Summer Fridays in June, July, and August 2026, with free rides on all lines and zones. While weekends are not free, monthly passholders get expanded travel to any zone and can bring a companion for $1, while others can use the $10 weekend pass for unlimited weekend travel.
