Endicott Men’s Ice Hockey Wins Again, Women’s Ice Hockey Suffers First Loss, Men’s Basketball Loses to Lyndon State

MARLBORO, Mass. – The Endicott men’s ice hockey team won its fourth straight game on Saturday night as the Gulls defeated Becker College, 4-2, in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast action at the N.E. Sports Center.

Endicott scored a pair of goals in the first and second period, respectively, to take a commanding 4-0 advantage headed into the third and never looked back.

Thomas Daniels (St. Louis, Mo.) opened up the scoring just 4:10 into the contest, while Shamus Maloney (North Attleboro, Mass.) doubled the lead at 15:25. In the second, Joseph Slovak (South Yarmouth, Mass.) buried an unassisted power play goal at 9:31 and Josh Bowes (Sturgeon County, Alberta, Canada) followed with his fourth goal of the season only 10-seconds later to put a 4-0 gap on the scoreboard.

Becker received goals from Colin Edwards (Winchester, Mass.) and Corey Schafer (Johnstown, Pa.) at 3:01 and 18:28, respectively, in the third to cut the deficit in half, but the offensive outburst came too late for the Hawks.

Endicott freshman goaltender Kevin Aldridge (Beverly Hills, Mich.) made 32 saves to improve to 4-1-2 on the season.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott has not lost in its last five games (4-0-1).
  • The Gulls went 1-for-5 on the power play.
  • Andrew Cross (Saugus, Mass.), Alexander Bonito (Buffalo, N.Y.), Bowes, Carter Horwitz (Tustin, Calif.), and Maloney all tallied assists in the win.
  • The assist for Cross was the first of his collegiate career.

FOR THE FOES

  • Becker outshot Endicott, 34-30.
  • Bryan Canter (Sparrows Point, Md.) stopped 14 shots over 30:19 in a backup role, while Tyler Stepke (Mars, Pa.) notched 12 saves.

Endicott (4-1-2, 4-1-1 ECAC Northeast) takes on Bowdoin on Saturday, November 28 on the road at 1 p.m. Becker (1-5-0, 1-4-0 ECAC Northeast) hosts Tufts on Tuesday, November 24 at 7:30 p.m.

Women’s Ice Hockey

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women’s ice hockey team and Stevenson University played to a 0-0 (OT) tie on Saturday evening at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.

The Gulls move to 6-1-1 overall and 4-1-1 in Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) play with the tie, while the Mustangs slide to 7-0-1 (5-0-1 CHC).

Endicott freshman goaltender Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) stopped 20 shots – including a breakaway attempt by Stevenson sophomore center Chelsea Blackburn (Westland, Mich.) late in the second period – to secure her fifth shutout this season. Jonsson notched five saves in the first, a period-high nine in the second and six more over the remainder of the contest.

Endicott (6-1-1, 4-1-1 CHC) travels to Southern Maine on Friday, December 4 for a non-conference contest at 7 PM. Stevenson (7-0-1, 5-0-1 CHC) will play back-to-back road games against Nichols on December 4-5. Game times for each matchup are scheduled for 7 PM and 12:40 PM, respectively

Men’s Basketball 
MIDDLETOWN, Conn.- Junior forward Daquan Sampson‘s double-double wasn’t enough as the Endicott men’s basketball team fell to Lyndon St., 87-81, in the Herb Kenny Tip-Off Classic Championship game Saturday afternoon Silloway Gymnasium at Wesleyan University.

With the loss, the Gulls move to 2-2 (0-0 CCC) to start the year, while the Hornets improved to 2-1 (0-0 NAC) on the season.

Lyndon St. took a 45-35 lead into the break and never relinquished control as the Gulls pulled to within 78-76 with 1:57 remaining but Lyndon St. shut the door.

The Hornets out-rebounded the Gulls, 39-36, and shot 43.8 percent from the floor compared to Endicott’s 44.6 percent in the game.

Lyndon St. sank 13 buckets from three-point range to the Gulls’ eight and benefited from 40 bench points.

Junior guard Kamahl Walker (Worcester, Mass.) led all scorers with 25 points, as he was 7-of-17 shooting, 1-of-6 from beyond the arc and 10-of-15 at the free throw line.

Walker and junior forward Daquan Sampson (Jacksonville, N.C.) were named to the All-Tournament team.

BEYOND THE BOX

  • Sampson paced the field with 12 boards to go with 17 points and four blocks to turn in his first double-double of the season (10th career).
  • Junior guard Max Motroni (West Warwick, R.I.) tallied 18 points with two assists and four rebounds.
  • Walker and Motroni have recorded double-digit points in all of the Gulls’ four games this season.

FOR THE FOES

  • Freshman guard Gabriel Torres (Woodland, Calif.) exploded for 24 points off the bench, hitting 7-of-9 from long distance and was named to the All-Tournament team along with Colbert.
  • Junior forward Xavier Colbert (Manassas, Va.) and sophomore guard Raymond Monroe (Cranston, R.I.) chipped in  14 and 11 points, respectively, for the Hornets.

NOTES

  • The Gulls are 1-1 all-time against Lyndon St., as the Gulls defeated the Hornets 94-80 at home in the previous meeting on Dec. 10, 1996 before several of the current Gulls were even born.

The Gulls (2-2) are off until they open CCC play on the road at Nichols (3-1) in Dudley, Mass. on Wednesday, December 2 at 7:30 p.m. Lyndon St. (2-1) travels to Plymouth St. on December 3 for a non-conference tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
