Endicott Men’s Ice Hockey Wins

BEVERLY – Logan Day’s (Seminole, Fla.) goal at 2:36 of overtime gave the No. 5/6 nationally ranked Endicott men’s ice hockey team a 3-2 victory Johnson & Wales University (JWU) on Friday night at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.
Day one-timed home the game-winner from the slot past Wildcats’ goaltender Mike Rockwell (Poughquag, N.Y.) off a feed from Jack Kilty (Medway, Mass.) who dished out a clean pass to the defenseman from the right corner. Luke Rodgers (Clarkston, Mich.) also was credited with an assist on the game-winning tally.
Endicott held a late 2-1 lead in the third, but Victor Carlsson’s (Calmar, Sweden) wrap around goal near the right post with 1:07 remaining in the contest forced overtime.
The Wildcats also received a goal from Connor Bechtel (Doylestown, Pa.) in the second (1:09) to even the score at 1-1, while Santino Ragone (Babylon, N.Y.) opened up the scoring in the matchup (12:30, first), and Connor Costello (Nottingham, N.H.) gave the Gulls a 2-1 lead at the 1:37 mark of the third with a slapper from the point.
Meanwhile, in goal, Endicott netminder Justin Ketola (Esko, Minn.) had 21 saves in the win (5-0-0) and Rockwell stopped a game-high 51 shots (one shy of his career-high) in the loss (4-7-0).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Day buried his second game-winning goal of the season and fifth of his career tonight.
Day also had an assist on Ragone’s first career goal as a Gull.
Endicott is 6-0-0 against JWU.
The Gulls have outscored the Wildcats 24-11 in the all-time series (one shutout, first overtime game).
Josh Bowes (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) won a game-high 16 face-offs.
FOR THE FOES
Chad Guderian (Coppell, Texas) won a team-high 14 face-offs and assisted on Carlsson’s game-tying tally.
Jason Recchia (Shelby Township, Mich.) blocked a game-high four shots.
WHAT’S NEXT
No. 5/6 Endicott (10-1-0, 9-0-0 CCC) travels to Pawtucket, Rhode Island tomorrow (Saturday) to complete its home-and-home series with JWU (4-9-0, 3-6-0 CCC) at 5:35 PM at the Lynch Arena/Blackstone Valley Sports Center.


 

Endicott Women’s Ice Hockey Wins 

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The No. 7 Endicott women’s ice hockey team defeated Wesleyan (Conn.), 5-1 this evening at Spurrier-Snyder Rink.
Maggie Layo (Sandwich, Mass.) got the scoring started in the first period to give the Gulls an early 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, Lauren Ferraiuolo (North Haven, Conn.) netted her third goal of the season to extend the lead to 2-0.
Rounding out the scoring in the first period was Jade Meier (Fairbanks, Alaska) to give Endicott a 3-0 lead heading into the second frame.
Wesleyan responded with a goal from Alex Horton (Great Neck, N.Y.) as time wound down in the second period to snap the shutout.
However, the Gulls added two more goals in the third period from Jillian Gibbs (Burlington, Vt.) and Layo to secure the 5-1 victory.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) improved to 7-0-1 on the season and recorded 17 saves.
Ashlie Jones (Billerica, Mass.), Ellen Carter (Roseville, Minn.), Lexi Klein (Shoreview, Minn.), Gibbs, and Meier were credited with assists during the contest.
Klein led the team in assists with three on the night.
Gibbs and Layo each recorded a team-high four shots.
Endicott held the 27-18 shot advantage.
The Gulls were 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Cardinals were 0-for-1.
FOR THE FOES
Sam Smith (Tarentum, Pa.) recorded 22 saves during the loss and shifted to 1-2-0 on the season.
Horton paced the offense with four shots, while Jackie Kilar (Weare, N.H.) was close behind with three.

No. 7 Endicott (10-0-1, 5-0-1 CHC) hosts Plymouth State on Saturday, Dec. 16 for a 3 p.m. contest. Wesleyan (2-4-2, 0-0-2 NESCAC) is at the University of New England on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 4 p.m
