D1 – Girls Hockey State Final – St. Mary’s Wins 5-4 in Third OT – Alyssa Norden with the Game Winning Goal – Postgame Interviews & Photos

BOSTON (Video – Photos) The #2 seeded St. Mary’s girls hockey team needed just over 21 minutes of overtime play to win the MIAA D1 state title Sunday morning at the TD Garden (5-4 / 3OTS) in defeating the #1 seed Notre Dame. The game winning goal came at 5:34 of the third 8-minute overtime period from Alyssa Norden as she knocked the puck in after a tip from Issabella Freitas. St. Mary’s was on the verge of winning the title at the end of regulation however Notre Dame scored a tying goal with 8 seconds to play in regulation. St. Mary’s freshman sensation Isabella Freitas scored two goals in regulation and in the overtimes her skills led to Notre Dame penalties resulting in four Spartan powerplays. Gianna Tringale was outstanding in goal for St. Mary’s and Notre Dame’s Ava Larkin was also impressive in goal. Scroll all the way down for photos and videos. BOSTON – The MIAA D1 State Championship girls hockey game will feature #2 St. Mary’s (Lynn) against #1 Notre Dame (Hingham) Sunday morning at TD Garden (9 a.m.) Our website will have updates and a game report on Sunday’s Game. St. Mary’s (22-3-1) has won four tournament games; Weymouth (5-1), Boston Latin (4-2), Shrewsbury (2-1), and Archbishop Williams (2-1 OT). Game Notes: St. Mary’s lost in the state finals last year to Shrewsbury (4-1) and Sunday’s game will be the school’s 8th trip to the finals since 2005. The Spartans have won five titles, the last in 2013. Notre Dame will be making their fourth trip to the state championship game and they last won a title in 2017, their second ever championship.
