College Hockey: Wentworth Slips Past No. 12 Endicott, 2-1 (OT)

BEVERLY, Mass. – The No. 12 nationally ranked Endicott men’s ice hockey team lost to Wentworth, 2-1, in overtime on Saturday night at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.

Jake McKenelley (Middleton, Mass.) potted the game-winner at the 2:41 mark of overtime when he blasted home a loose puck from the slot.

The Leopards forced overtime with a second-chance goal at the doorstep from Joey O’Leary (Boston, Mass.) in the third period (9:44).

Endicott opened up the scoring in the first with a beautiful tic-tac-toe tally by Connor Beaty (Concord, N.H.). Jeremy Gabriele (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Andrew Kurapov (Corvallis, Ore.) were credited with assists on the power play goal.

Meanwhile, in goal, Wentworth sophomore netminder Will Oliver (Chesterfield, Mo.) made 35 saves in the win (3-5-2).

Conor O’Brien (Pinellas Park, Fla.) stopped 19 shots in the loss (11-4-1).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls had their four-game winning streak snapped.
  • Wentworth won its first-ever game at Raymond J. Bourque Arena (1-8-0 in the all-time series).
  • Despite the loss, Endicott is 13-3-0 all-time against the Leopards.

No. 12 Endicott (12-4-1, 9-3-1 CCC) travels to Suffolk on Friday, January 28 at 7 PM. Wentworth (4-11-2, 3-9-1 CCC) hosts the University of New England next Friday at 7 PM.
