College Baseball: Endicott Wins Saturday – Gulls to Host Salem State Sunday in Doubleheader Starting at Noon

BEVERLY – The Endicott baseball team will host Salem State Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader with games at 12 noon & 3 p.m. Both teams are off to 1-0 starts. Endicott beat UMass Boston today (3/2). Salem State opened their season earlier this week with a 7-4 win over Gordon College. In that game Salem State’s Owen Duggan (Billerica, Mass.) went 3 for 4 and Brock Pare (Lowell) pitched five innings and gave up only one run while striking out six, with just one walk, and allowed only two hits to earn the win.

BOSTON – The No. 3 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team defeated UMass Boston, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon at Monan Park.

WP (1-0): Jordan Gottesman (Acton) — 6 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 11 KLP (0-1): Ross Dexter (Milton) — 3 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 KSV (1): John Connolly (Attleboro) — 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

The Gulls used a four-run fifth inning and let their pitching take care of the rest to secure the season-opening victory. Dylan Pacheco (Dartmouth) started the scoring with an RBI double to center before Danny MacDougall (Taunton) followed with a two-run double of his own on the next at-bat to make it 3-0. Nicolas Notarangelo (Taunton) capped the four-run outburst with a deep triple to center.

Notarangelo also added an RBI double in the top of the ninth for some late insurance.

From there, Connolly closed out the final three frames to notch his first career save.

No. 3 Endicott (1-0) hosts Salem State (1-0) tomorrow for a non-conference doubleheader, games at 12 p.m. & 3 p.m.
