Boys Basketball: Manchester-Essex Tops Newburyport (54-42) – Cade Furse 24-Points – Postgame Interviews & Photos

MANCHESTER – The build-up for this game was big and the game lived up its billing. In the end Manchester-Essex (15-0 / 13-0) handed Newburyport (13-3 / 12-1) their first Cape Ann League loss of the season 54-42. Both teams entertained the crowd with athletic defensive stops and takeaways. Each team also was able to make athletic takes to the basket. Hornet’s senior Guard Cade Furse scored 24-points and had 7 steals. Center Ed Chareas added 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Newburyport led by three points at the end of the first quarter (16-13) however Manchester-Essex rallied late in the second quarter to take a two-point lead into halftime (26-24). The Hornet’s biggest lead of the game came in the fourth quarter (12 points, 51-39). Zayd Leanna led Newburyport with 10 points.
