From Nick Giannino, Gloucester Times Sports Editor:
For their accomplishments both in the classroom and on their respective athletic surfaces, Danvers senior soccer standout Georgia Prouty and Masconomet junior football star Jack Fabiano have been selected as the Moynihan Lumber Student-Athletes of the Month for September.
Prouty has been utterly dominant on the soccer pitch this fall, guiding the Falcons to a 12-3-3 record and the No. 5 seed in the Division 3 MIAA power rankings. Her 24 goals and 37 total points as of last Thursday were far and away the top marks on the North Shore.
A very well-rounded student, too, this award is one of many Prouty will more than likely take home before graduation.
“It’s a total honor to take this award. It’s amazing to feel like my academics are also being highlighted along with the program here at Danvers,” said Prouty. “I get to join some pretty elite company including two friends: Ari Bezanson, who’s at Colgate, and Jake Vana at Princeton.”
Last year’s Salem News Player of the Year for girls soccer, Prouty, a team captain, is already slated to continue her career at Boston University next fall and will graduate DHS as one of the top scorers in program history.
To cap it all off, she is ranked towards the top of her class with a GPA of 3.89 (97%). She has consistently been an honor or high honor roll student and is currently taking two AP courses. Prouty is involved with community service and has volunteered for the likes of Talbot Run and Griffins Run that the girls soccer team supports
.
So how does she balance it all?
“There’s definitely not a lot of down time during the season but I think I do a good job of staying organized and keeping pretty timelines on my studies,” she said. “Coach tends to schedule the practices during the earlier time slots around 3 p.m. so I am usually able to complete any homework and study time after, which I find to be really helpful.”
Prouty says her favorite subjects in school are English and history, and she’s also really enjoyed a TV seminar elective where she got the chance to use cameras to film and make short movies.
Prouty is eager and ready to help her team execute a deep tournament run on the soccer pitch in her farewell campaign before embarking on a new journey at BU next year.
“I think our success has come from being resilient; we’ve been down in a couple of games and found a way back for results in a good amount of games,” said Prouty. “Everyone on this team believes in what we can do and what we can achieve … we’ve got to believe we deserve the win, and stay consistent in how we play.”
