Men’s College Hockey
Fitchburg State 4, Salem State 2 – The Falcons raise their record to 7-3-2, 6-1-2 while the Vikings go to 3-9, 3-6. In the opening ten minutes of the game, Salem State’s Christopher Dowd (Danville, N.H.) showcased his exceptional skills by netting his fifth goal of the season, beating Falcons goaltender Max Macchioni (North Kingstown, R.I). Carson James (Falmouth, Maine) and Ryan Meagher (Boston) were credited with the assists. Salem State will be back in action on Tuesday night, when they return to home ice to battle against their Northshore rivals, the Endicott Gulls. Game time is at 7 p.m. at the Rockett Arena.
Women’s College Hockey
Endicott 3, Middlebury 3 (OT) Tie – In the first period, Rivers Morris (Braintree) took a backhanded feed from Maggie Lynch (Quincy) and buried her fourth goal of the season at the 5:07 mark of the first period as the Gulls took a 1-0 lead. Both teams had chances the rest of the period but the score remained 1-0 going to the second period. The Panthers tied the game just 53 seconds into the second and then took a 2-1 lead at 9:54 before Lily Anderson (St. Paul, Minn.) tallied a shorthanded goal to tie the game at two apiece (16:48) as the two teams were deadlocked going to the third period. Morris added her second goal of the game less than five minutes into the thrid periond (4:31) to give Endicott the 3-2 advantage. The score would remain that way until Middlebury scored at the 17:53 mark and sent the game to overtime. In overtime, neither team was able to find the back of the net resulting in a 3-3 tie. No. 14 Endicott (8-4-2) returns to conference action as they visit UNE on Friday, January 12 at 7 PM.
Norwich 9, Salem State 0 – Livia Brooks (Walpole) netted four goals to give #8 Norwich a 9-0 shutout victory over Salem State in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action on Saturday afternoon at Rockett Arena. The Cadets improve their record to 10-3-1, 8-1-0 while the Vikings drop to 6-9,2-6.
Men’s College Basketball
Endicott 74, Hartford 57 – Freshman forward Elijah Kinney (Nashville, Tenn.) led the Gulls with 19 points (8-15 FG, 2-5 3PT), 13 rebounds, and two steals in the win. Jeff Hill (Lynn) notched 19 points (6-15 FG, 2-7 3PT, 5-6 FT) to go along with his four rebounds, three assists, and game-high three steals. Jalen Echevarria (Lynn) also recorded 19 points (7-14 FG, 2-6 3PT, 3-3 FT) and snagged four rebounds for the Gulls. Endicott (10-3) welcomes Nichols to MacDonald Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 9 for a 7:30 PM tipoff.
Women’s College Basketball
Endicott 64, Hartford 56 – Emma Shinney (Wakefield) led the quartet of Gulls in double figures with 21 points (7-14 FG, 6-10 FT), five boards, and four dimes. Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) netted 15 points (5-7 FG), snagged nine rebounds, swiped four steals, and swatted three shots. The duo of Taylor Bogdanski (Saugus) and Alyssa Garabedian (Cheshire) each added 10 points in the triumph. Endicott (7-5) hosts Nichols on Tuesday, January 9 at 5:30 PM.
