Salem State to Host a Conversation on Writing, Social Media, Marketing, & Podcasting – Thursday Event

SALEM – How do you build a career for yourself in today’s world as a writer and content creator? Join novelist and influencer Elizabeth Cayouette and journalist Susan Zalkind for a conversation about how to market oneself using social media, how to bring our writing to other media (podcasts/t.v. series), and how to pitch a book or creative project.

Elizabeth Cayouette is a writer, viral video content creator and cinematographer. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Brandeis University with a dual-degree in Film, Television and Interactive Media and Interpersonal and Mass Communications, and minors in Creative Writing and English. In 2021, Elizabeth created @bettysbooklist, the viral TikTok/Instagram account which is one of the top book recommendation accounts in the world and is featured in outlets such as The Boston Globe, Euronews, Fox News, The London Times and Glamour UK. She has over 448,000 followers across platforms, and started the viral trend of acting out the plot of the book as the main character. She recently agreed to a two-book deal with St. Martins/Griffin. Her debut novel, One Last Shot, will be published in Summer 2024.

Susan Zalkind is an investigative reporter, writer, and producer. Zalkind has spent the last decade investigating the tragic murder of Brendan Mess, Raphael Teken, and her friend, Erik Weissman and the connection between the open homicide case and the Boston Marathon bombing. Her book The Waltham Murders: An Unsolved Homicide, a National Tragedy, and a Search for the Truth will be coming out in September 2023. Zalkind also wrote and produced the three part docu-series The Murders Before The Marathon. The series is based on her forthcoming book, began streaming in the US on Hulu on September 5, 2022, and is now available on streaming platforms across the world.
