MBTA Forging Ahead with Service Changes

The MBTA is implementing service changes in response to the low ridership caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Changes on the bus network and subway system will take place on March 14th, which will include reducing frequency on some bus and subway lines, as well as eliminating, shortening, or combining various bus routes.
  • The Commuter Rail will also undergo additional scheduling changes, starting April 5th.

Ahead of these changes, the MBTA will host two virtual public meetings on February 17th and February 24th, from 6pm to 8pm. These meetings will provide an opportunity for riders to learn more about the changes and ask questions. For more information about the Spring Service Changes and to register for the public meetings, please visit https://www.mbta.com/servicechanges.

Folks who are not available to join the public meetings can still ask us questions by registering here for our weekly virtual coffee chats.

More information about the Forging Ahead process can be found at https://www.mbta.com/forging-ahead.

In addition, the MBTA has submitted the Forging Ahead changes for environmental review, which can be viewed here. Lastly, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or comments you may have.

The MBTA will undergo an environmental review process to analyze these impacts on riders and the places we service. On February 23rd, 2021 at 6 PM the Forging Ahead Service Level Reduction Environmental Notification Form (ENF) Consultation Session will be held. The public is invited to attend this meeting where staff will describe the proposed changes, potential impacts and mitigation, and answer clarifying questions. Attendees will have the opportunity to provide comments on the environmental issues and impacts of the spring service changes.  You may find the link to the event here.
