Rockport Goalie Will Ranta Is Heating Up for the Playoffs | Cape Ann Savings Bank Student-Athlete of the Week
The Rockport High School boys soccer team is finding its stride at just the right time, and senior goalkeeper Will Ranta is a big reason why.
Ranta joins North Shore Sports Desk as the latest Cape Ann Savings Bank Student-Athlete of the Week to discuss the Vikings’ late-season resurgence, which has included three consecutive victories, back-to-back shutouts and just one goal allowed over that three-game stretch.
After navigating a challenging six-game losing streak against tough Cape Ann League competition, Rockport has rediscovered its confidence. Ranta reflects on the turnaround, the excitement of a memorable Senior Night victory over Essex Tech and his determination to help the Vikings make another deep Division 5 state tournament run after reaching the Elite Eight last season.
We also get into the finer points of goalkeeping, including how Ranta studies professional keepers such as Arsenal’s David Raya to improve his positioning and decision-making.
