The City of Peabody will hold its annual Patriots Day Commemoration on Monday, April 20,
honoring the city’s deep Revolutionary War heritage and the local residents who played a role in
the fight for American independence.
This year’s observance, conducted in coordination with the Danvers Alarm List, will include
three historic stops throughout the morning:
•8:40a.m. – Jacobs Lot
The ceremony will begin with a special dedication of a new stone marker honoring John Jacobs,
a Revolutionary War veteran and brother of Henry Jacobs Jr., who was killed during the
Lexington Retreat. The dedication recognizes the family’s sacrifice and Peabody’s connection to
the earliest acts of resistance.
• 9:30 a.m. – South Burying Ground
Participants will gather to acknowledge and honor the burial markers of those who fell during the
Lexington Retreat and are interred at this historic site. Officials will offer brief remarks on their
service and the significance of the retreat in the opening days of the Revolution.
• 10:00 a.m. – Peabody Monument
The final stop will commemorate the first year of battle between the American colonies and
British forces, with reflections on the unfolding struggle for independence and the community’s
role in supporting the cause.
Residents are invited and encouraged to attend any or all of the morning’s events as the City pays
tribute to the patriots whose courage helped shape the nation.
