The Town of Boxford is deeply saddened to share the passing of Paul Polonsky

BOXFORD – The Town of Boxford is deeply saddened to share the passing of Paul Polonsky, who died early yesterday morning while serving our community as a dispatcher during the overnight shift at the Boxford Police Station.Paul dedicated his life to public safety. Over the years, he served as a dispatcher for multiple communities, including Ipswich, Hamilton, Topsfield, Boxford, and Endicott College, and spent many years as an officer with the Essex County Sheriff’s Department. He also served as a reserve police officer in Boxford from 1984 to 2012, as well as in Danvers and Essex, building a long-standing and meaningful connection to our town.

Even in retirement, Paul continued to step forward to serve. Most recently, he assisted Boxford as a dispatcher during our transition to the North Shore Regional 911 Center—once again answering the call to help when he was needed.
Paul’s legacy of service is also reflected in his family. His daughter, Officer Tammy Broughton, proudly serves on the Boxford Police Department. Many will remember the meaningful moment when Paul had the honor of pinning his badge on Officer Broughton as she began her law enforcement career—a powerful symbol of his dedication to both family and public service.
Paul’s passing is a profound loss for our Police and Fire Departments, our communications colleagues across the region, and the entire Boxford community.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Officer Broughton, Paul’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Please keep Paul and his family in your thoughts during this difficult time.
