SALEM – The City of Salem has presented the final report of the Safe Streets for All Safety Action Plan. Development of this plan was made possible by a $200,000 grant from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and through the work of city staff within Salem’s Department of Transportation, the consultant team, Task Force members and input from the general public. The Safety Action Plan is a comprehensive, city-wide review that includes data analysis and strategies to improve roadway safety for all users, to better meet the goal of zero traffic-related fatalities in Salem. As part of our adoption of Vision Zero and the Safe System Approach, the city commits to reducing annual fatal and serious injury crashes on local roads to zero by 2030.
City of Salem Presents Final Report of Safe Streets for All Safety Action Plan
“Ensuring the safety of our streets is a collective responsibility within our community, and the Safe Streets for All Safety Action Plan represents a major step forward in our commitment to that goal,” said Mayor Dominick Pangallo. “Thanks to the support of our federal partners, the dedication of city staff, and the engagement of our residents, we now have a clear roadmap to make our streets safer for everyone. Whether you walk, bike, roll, drive, or ride transit, you should be able to do so safely on all of Salem’s streets. Together, we can create safer roadways for all. My thanks to the City staff who made this plan possible and to the working group members who helped shape its development.”
This plan builds upon ongoing work to date, and we look forward to pursuing additional grant opportunities to implement the projects identified in the report. For more information about the project and the final documents, visit the City’s website.
