Dear GHS Families and Staff,
This morning, Christopher Dailey’s family shared the very sad news that he will not recover from the injuries he sustained in the car accident on Sunday night.
Chris graduated last month with the Class of 2025, grew up in Rockport, and was hockey captain. He will be missed terribly.
To help both students and staff, Gloucester High School will be open today from 12 noon to 2 p.m. for staff and students to gather. Counselors and other support will be available as well as food and refreshments.
This news about Chris is heartbreaking. Heartbreaking for his friends who just shared the excitement and thrill of graduating high school with him. Heartbreaking for too many of our staff whose own children are close friends with Christopher, and now not only have to experience losing Christopher, but also witness their own children struggle with the pain of his passing. And of course, heartbreaking for Chris’s family. Our deepest condolences are with Chris’s family and friends.
Gloucester has faced many tragedies for literally hundreds of years, but few are worse than the death of a young person, taken just as they are stepping out into the world. This type of tragedy creates a hole in our hearts that may never be filled.
Yet, if yesterday’s mass at Our Lady of the Good Voyage where hundreds came out to support Chris and the three other GHS graduates involved in the crash – Lexi Carollo, Colby Jewell, and Bella Iacono – is any indicator, once again, our community will come together to hold Christopher, his family, and these young people in our hearts and together lift each other up.
Please hold your loved ones close. If you know of any student, family, member, or staff member who is struggling for any reason, please support them in getting help.
Sincerely,
Ben Lummis
