2024 Cape Ann Community Wildfire Protection Plan Open House – Thursday March, 7th

The City of Gloucester and Gloucester Fire Department would like to invite the community and members of surrounding communities to attend an open house focused on the 2024 Cape Ann Community Wildfire Protection Plan and to take a public survey that will contribute to the plan.

WHEN:

Thursday, March 7, from 6 to 8 p.m.

WHERE:

Gloucester City Hall, Kryouz Auditorium (second floor), 9 Dale Ave.

WHAT:

A coalition of fire response entities and other partners throughout Cape Ann will host a public open house on the development of the 2024 Cape Ann Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). This will be an opportunity for the community to learn about the CWPP, visit with staff from fire departments and local government, and provide comments to inform CWPP development. Information will be on display and a short presentation will take place at 6 p.m. If you are unable to attend in person you can complete a community survey by clicking here.

This CWPP is being developed through a collaborative partnership of stakeholders including the communities of Essex, Gloucester, Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Rockport; and land trusts and agencies including Greenbelt, Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation Forest Fire Control and the Trustees, who have taken proactive measures to protect the Cape Ann communities and infrastructure from wildfire hazards by contracting SWCA Environmental Consultants to develop a CWPP for 2024.

Crucial aspects of the CWPP are recommendations for hazardous fuels reduction, public outreach and education, structural ignitability reduction, and improved fire response capabilities. By addressing these areas, Cape Ann aims to heighten the safety of its residents and critical infrastructure in the face of potential wildfires.

Please take 5 minutes to complete a community survey by clicking here.

The survey data is anonymous. All data collected from this survey will be used to inform the CWPP.
