SALEMJunior Maggie Layo (Sandwich, Mass.) of Endicott scored with eight seconds remaining in overtime as the Gulls escaped with a 1-0 victory over Salem State at Rockett Arena on Saturday afternoon. Endicott improves to 15-2-1 while the Vikings slide to 2-12.

Both netminders, Salem State’s Sarah Plourde (Hookset, NH) and the Gulls’ Kyra Johansson (Buffalo, NY), kept each team scoreless through the first sixty minutes of play. In a closely contested game in which only three penalties were called, Plourde made 41 saves while Johansson stopped all 22 shots she faced. However, in overtime, Endicott controlled the puck for the majority of overtime, outshooting the Vikings 7-1 before Layo, found the back of the net with eight seconds remaining.

Salem State’s next game is at home again against Johnson & Wales on Saturday the 28th at 5:00PM. Endicott takes on SUNY Canton on Friday, January 22nd at 7:00PM in Beverly, MA.
