Winthrop Police Department Arrest Man on Charge of Trafficking Methamphetamine

WINTHROP — Chief Terence M. Delehanty reports that the Winthrop Police Department arrested and charged a man with trafficking methamphetamines on Wednesday.

SERGIO MURILLO, AGE 21, OF EAST BOSTON, was arrested and charged with:

  • Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Trafficking Methamphetamine 18 Grams or More

On Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 1:48 p.m., Winthrop Police were conducting routine patrol on Main Street when they observed a vehicle that showed no licensed owner. Officers initiated a motor vehicle stop.

The driver, later identified as MURILLO, presented a Colombian driver’s license and did not have a valid form of identification.

Officers asked MURILLO to exit the vehicle and during a search of his person, officers found a clear plastic bag that contained a pink powdery substance later determined to be methamphetamine.

A subsequent vehicle search discovered a digital scale, another clear plastic bag containing a powdery substance, three clear plastic bags containing a white powder/rock-like substance, a clear plastic bag containing a rocky crystal substance, a small spoon and a device used to sniff narcotics, and a clear plastic bag containing water-filled gel beads.

Officers arrested MURILLO and transported him to the Winthrop Police Department for booking.

The substances recovered from MURILLO’s vehicle were later tested and identified as methamphetamine.

MURILLO was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court, East Boston Division, on Thursday, where he was ordered held without bail for 90 days.

These are allegations. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
