Weather Information – Below
SALEM – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Salem from today through Monday, January 29th at 7pm.
Strong winds, with gusts of up to 30MPH, are forecast throughout the event. Those in or near areas prone to flooding – including those who live or own a business in these locations, as well as those who have parked a vehicle in them – should be aware of the sustained high winds that are anticipated, especially around the high tides at 1:20am tonight and 1:30pm tomorrow, Monday. While the tide height will be 2’ below what it was during the January 13th storm, the direction and sustained nature of the forecasted winds could still create flooding in some areas.
The National Weather Service estimate for snow accumulation from this event is forecast to be approximately 2” and therefore no snow emergency parking ban is currently planned. The Department of Public Services will be pre-treating roadways before the snowfall and plowing during the event as necessary, however. To help facilitate that work, if you can remove your vehicle from on-street parking it would be appreciated, but it is not required.
If there is a storm drain or catch basin near you, you can help prevent flooding on your roadway by making sure it is clear of debris. Public Services workers attempt to keep these stormwater drains clear generally, but assistance from community members is always appreciated and helpful in that effort.
Public Safety and DPS will endeavor to close off areas that are flooded, but drivers are encouraged to use common sense and avoid areas covered by water.
