WENHAM — Police Chief Thomas Perkins reports that the Wenham Police Department is investigating a single-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of the driver.
On Wednesday, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Wenham Police and Fire responded to Essex Street near Grapevine Road for a reported motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, units observed that a single vehicle appeared to leave the roadway and strike a tree on the opposite side of the road.
The vehicle was occupied only by the driver, an 83-year-old woman from Essex.
The driver was taken to Beverly Hospital by Lyons Ambulance where she later died from her injuries.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the driver may have had a medical emergency prior to the crash. The incident is under investigation by the Wenham Police Department and the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
